Web Two Point Ohhhhh! 2.0

Web 2.0 … The Machine is Us/ing Us

Here’s a nice video that explains the “evolution” of the web from messy HTML to the nice separation of form and content with XML, RSS, and mashing and all that jazz, but watching it I get a feeling it’s just self-stroking, “Wow, look at us, we’re changing the world with all this ‘participation’.”.

As I said before, there are great things out there, but then the masses come and put dirty data all over the place.

I guess I’m just an elitist… what did they say about the intelligence of the masses?

Maybe somebody should make a Web 2.0 “Special Edition”, or “Limited Edition”. Ha.

Actually, just the last 30 seconds are about the evolution of Web 2.0. The first part is just the evolution of the Web, and there is a difference. For the first part, it was mostly about technology. Now we are entering the really interesting part, which is, like this video demonstrates, about us.

…The first part is just the evolution of the Web, …

And that’s what I wrote, “evolution of the web”, not “Web 2.0″. In my point of view the whole video was showing the evolution of the web from “1.0″ to “2.0″. I suppose you can argue “Web 1.0″ didn’t evolve to “Web 2.0″, because the two are supposedly very different things, but that just depends on what the 2.0 moniker means. I view it as a web of people connected to each other instead of a web of pages hyperlinked to another. Then again, the XML data that’s being transferred left, right and center connecting data from one place to another does make another technological web.
